Some moments deserve a standing ovation.
This spring, Reynoldsburg witnessed one of those moments as Amaya Washington earned the prestigious Best Actress in a Leading Role award at the 2026 CAPA Marquee Awards, one of Central Ohio's highest honors for high school musical theatre performers. Her award-winning performance as the Leading Player in Pippin captivated audiences and judges alike, earning her recognition among the region's most talented young performers.
Presented annually by Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, the Marquee Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre throughout Central Ohio. This year's competition featured students from 31 participating schools, showcasing the incredible depth of artistic talent found across the region.
For the Reynoldsburg community, Amaya's achievement represents more than an individual accomplishment, it highlights the impact of arts education and the dedication of the educators, directors, families, and fellow performers who help young artists discover their voices. Her portrayal of the Leading Player demonstrated the confidence, stage presence, and storytelling ability that define exceptional theatre.
The honor carries national significance as well. As the recipient of the Best Actress in a Leading Role award, Amaya will represent Central Ohio at the renowned Jimmy Awards in New York City. There, she will participate in an intensive program led by Broadway professionals before competing alongside the nation's top high school musical theatre performers.

At Villa Noir Candle Co., we are proud to celebrate artists who bring stories to life. Theatre has the power to transport us into new worlds, reveal hidden truths, and connect communities through shared experiences. Amaya's success is a reminder of why the performing arts matter, and why supporting arts education remains so important.
As a local business committed to supporting the arts, we extend our congratulations to Amaya Washington, her fellow performers, and everyone involved with the Reynoldsburg theatre community. We cannot wait to see what comes next as she takes her talent from Central Ohio to the national stage.
Break a leg, Amaya! Reynoldsburg is cheering for you.
